ABOUT

Expected results/Impact

The project will make advances in science and knowledge of marine toxins and methodologies for their detection, including biosensors and instrumental analysis techniques, beyond the current state of the art. It will improve understanding of the effects of marine toxins, the presence and transfer of toxins along the food webs, identify HABs hot spots, and prioritise study areas. It will also contribute to resolve several unsolved biological questions related to shellfish adaptation and capacity to resist environmental pressures and pollution.

Other expected outcomes are analytical services for emerging toxin detection and assessment of protocols for reference materials, and methods/devices for rapid screening of toxins.

Recommendations concerning toxins, assessment of seafood safety, and innovative depuration methodologies for the shellfish industry are also foreseen.
